Alternative medicine, what suggestions do you have for shingles ?

I went to the dr today for a rash that follows my buttock crack. it is very itchy. It has been on me for several months. the dr said it might be shingles. I have no pain, only itching. What ideas do alternative meds have for shingles, especially considering this must be a mild case if a case at all.
I have a 12 week grand daughter and it appears I can not infect her unless I have blisters and she touches them ?
