Alt button isn't working on the HTC Touch Pro 2; help?

Hi there, I just got a Touch Pro 2 off craigslist (kinda regretting now) and it seemed like it ran fine. After hours of getting it and getting off of work, i decided to start texting with it. Found out that the Alt button on the QWERTY keyboard doesnt seem to work. It sounds like it works, but the light that should turn on for when you hit the Alt button, doesnt turn on. Any suggestions as to why this is? thanks for any replies
