Almost bricked N73 while updating FW

i have a N73ME, which had FW version V 3.0638.0.0.30, in the morning when i checked with Nokia software updater it said there was an update available, the new verion was 3.0705.1.0.31.
so i decided to update my phone, i followed all the instructions to the word, charged the battery fully before update, kept the sim card in, put the cell on General profile! then the updater downloaded the required files, which were around 72MB in size. after that it started installing the new FW into the phone, but when the status bar showed that update is 75-80% done, it gave me an error "Connection to the phone lost" n it suggested me to remove the battery and turn the phone ON n then retry!
which i did, and to my surprise, the phone says its up to date, with FW version being 3.0705.1.0.31!
now my question is, what should i do? should i reinstall the FW as i guess this FW isnt properly installed as it gave me error in between and didnt complete successfully!
plzz suggest!

I also finally gave updating my N80 firmware a shot last night. After several minutes of staring at my pc and barely even breathing in the fear that I would do something clumsy and disconnect my phone by accident, I heard the dreaded hardware disconnected sound that XP has!

I tell you, I almost had a heart attack! It kept disconnecting and reconnecting and I was just staring at the screen believe my life was over (talk about dependence on technology), but it doesn't seem to have done anything adverse. I finished updating, my new N80i fired up, and it's been working perfectly!

i know what u mean when u said u almost had a heart attack, i went thru the same thing when i saw that "connection lost" error!
by the way, did you just hear those disconnecting sound or you got errors too?

I saw the "N80 has been disconnected" message pop up on the task bar, but it didn't seem to affect the upgrading at all. I'm not sure why. It just went right on and I haven't seen any problems... yet.

that messege is normal i guess, as the phone is disconnected from Nokia PC suite and then the Nokia software updator takes the control over! (to put it in crude way)
so that means your update process went pretty smoothly, with no probs at all!

I don't know - it was disconnected and reconnected several times in quick succession, which is what made me lose my mind. I'm not sure why it would need to do that.

Yes, thats the way the updater works. Its when it disconnects and you cannot REBOOT the phone that you have problems (brick).

well i almost had that situation, my phone wouldnt reboot, i had to take out the battery and then replace it, only it switched ON! and then showed that the new FW was installed!

I had the same thing happen with my N93. I did it at 3am so there will be no distractions. Forget the heart attack, I'll admit I almost cried out of frustation. I just stepped out, had a cig and tried it again and it worked. I dont think I'll be doing the next fw upgrade by myself next time.
