Almost 60 million Americans have socialized medicine, why aren't they complaining?

The debate over health care reform is focused on just how well the three existing American “socialized” health care programs work. What are they? Medicare, the Veterans Administration and U.S. military health care.

Medicare covers 43 million Americans. It turns out the Republicans actually support Medicare — socialized medicine that exists and covers elderly Americans. Then there’s the Veterans Administration; eight million Americans there. The vets are pretty happy with it, thank you. Then there’s the U.S. military medical program. One of the best. Not much waste. No big profits.

These three socialized medical systems cover about 60 million Americans, and each is focused on providing good health care, right now, right here in America. Then you can throw in the medical program House members, senators and the president (and their employees) use. Americans enjoy the benefits of “socialized” medicine right now. It works well. No one is turned away for pre-existing conditions, no rationing (the way the insurance companies do), how about that?

Add 8.5 million federal employees to Congress.

Don’t be duped by insurance-pandering Republicans doing the “health-scare” dance. These corporate suck-ups aren’t wearing any clothes.
EDIT: For the record I know many people on Medicare, all are satisfied with the care. I am on Medicare and am completely satisfied. luvmyhu...you shouldn't jumpt to false conclusions.
 
Tell that to the Airmen that just had both legs amputed for a routine surgery (and no, he and his family isn't allowed to sue the U.S. military).
 
Should I pretend that I haven't actually seen more vets complain than not or that I haven't seen more medicare recipients complain than not?

Perhaps your sphere of personal contacts lacks depth in this area. It is the only conclusion I can possibly draw.
 
Great points that the GOP doesn't want you to know. Instead they focus on lies like the health care program will kill our elderly. Better to ignore their lies and focus on the truth and the realistic need for a better and universal program.

Obviously you know no one who's on medicare,or who's a veteran. They do complain,and for the record seniors on medicare HAVE to pay what medicare does not cover. Medicare recently denied covering virtual colonoscopies which are less invasive than an actual colonoscopy,less expensive,and they're very accurate in diagnosing tumors,polyps,and diverticulae.
 
They're not complaining because they like it. They don't have to worry about being able to afford medical care. Some won't ever have to worry about it.
 
They are complaining. Everyone is always complaining. That's what politics is- a bunch of cry babies.
 
Medicare:
1. ~36 Trillion dollars in unfunded liabilities
2. They reimburse hospitals 64 cents on the dollar. Who do you think pays that extra 36 cents? You do realize the Government is one of the primary contributors to the high costs of health care, right? As in they don't pay their bills in full and hospitals re-coupe those losses through your private insurance -- premiums go up lately?
3. Medicare is cutting their reimbursement rates again this year by 21%. My g/f works at a hospital and they cut her pay/hours/benefits in order to compensate. They've also talked about refusing to treat Medicare patients.
4. Have you ever dealt w/ Medicare? My Aunt spent an entire day at the office trying to get a Medicare card and upon closing the office they told her to come back the next day for her card. No biggie -- it was only a 6 hour wait. She waited another 3 hours the next day.

VA:
1. Hit and miss -- the misses are horrific...amputations-a-plenty.

TRICARE:
1. Being reformed to save costs -- check the CBO

2. It's a newer program -- they generally operate as intended until the bureaucracy saps its efficiency.

People who are in favor of the program are either:
1. Getting something for nothing
2. Don't understand how Health Care/Health Insurance works
3. Don't understand the leading causes behind Health Care costs
4. Don't understand that the U.S. has one of the best (if not the best) health care in the world -- technological advances/innovations in treatment/innovations in prescription drugs/the best-of-the-best doctors & nurses/etc. etc.
5. Don't care to research other Countries and the struggles they're up against now.
a. Canada - Injected hundreds of billions of dollars into their health care system last year. The quality of care continues to slip and hospitals are still closing faster than they can open new ones. They also have problems w/ amputations.
b. The UK is entertaining a two-tier HMO option which allows users to acquire an HMO that will patch the holes in Government coverage instigated by the rationing board. They're rationing b/c they can't afford the increasing costs.
c. Australia will be insolvent in 5 years. They're behind Canada and the UK and will likely employ some of the same strategies to curb costs.

What can I say -- if you fail to make the effort to understand the decisions you make, maybe you get what you deserve...an inadequate system that functions properly in the short run and disintegrates long term...likely when it's time for you to hit the hospital bed.
 
they aren't complaining because they got their health care..the irony is alot of these folks complain about government handouts like no tomorrow. The hypocrisy is mindnumbing.
 
A lot of them do. But most of them don't complain because they get it for free off of someone else's hard work.

I don't care if we do medicare and medicaid, what I don't want is the entire system to become socialized. You may not hear an uproar right now, but when Obama gets his way, you definately will.
