Alltel/AT&T merger question?

I'm just wondering, since I can't find the information I had before, do I turn on my new phone, or will it turn on automatically or will I know when to turn it on?

Actually, Alltel merged with Verizon, so it no longer exists. Right now, AT&T is buying out T-Mobile.
