Allergy Shot Local Reaction

Hi

I'm currently on a maintenance dose for my allergy shots.

Just wondering if anyone else still gets a local reaction to their shot?

My allergist says its not a problem, but I was wondering if this happens to anyone else?

I have no other symptoms, and I feel much better with the shots.

On my first 5-yr go-round of immunotherapy, I had a local reaction every time I got a shot. The reaction was only about quarter size at the end, but was more like softball size for much of my treatment.

I'm 3 years into my second go-round of immunotherapy and I'm having minor or no real reaction.

I'd say is really is the person, the allergens they are being treated for and the timing that determines if you have a reaction. If you are just swelling a bit and it goes away in a couple days, I'd say not to worry. If it hurts, a bit of ice helps. Also make sure you are taking an antihistamine prior to getting your shot. That helps as well.
 
Yes, I have been on shots for several years, & still get a local reaction every time. The good news is that for the past 6 months or so, it has begun to decrease. One of the allergy nurses told me that several patients have mentioned that their arms still itch during pollen season, even after the shots were stopped, hope that doesn't happen to me!

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who gets a reaction. It's just swelling not painful and it does go away in a day or so. I guess I'm just very sensitive to the allergens.

I do take an antihistamine before, and I still get them, although they don't really itch or bother me much, I just wondered if others had the same experience.

I just thought 2 years into it, my body wouldn't react so much. I can't imagine ever getting off shots entirely.
 
I have had allergy injections for quite some time and have had reactions like yours. It is nothing to worry about. To me, it was a sign that the injection was very much needed.
 
WEll, after 5 years you should get off them. You should be at max help by then. And I had reactions off and on all 5 years (all 3 times I did the routine) so I wouldn't worry about that.
 
About going off of allergy injections, this may be of some interest. A dr. where I moved to, took me off my injections-and I had been on them for some time. All of a sudden, I couldn't think straight, lost all my energy, and my balance went crazy. It has cost me close to three years of my life. So, there are people who may need them for more than five years.
