I have very bad allergies and it took me three years before I was diagnosed and finally treated. I had a hard time finding meRAB that would stop my allergic reation (release of histamine) things were so bad that I had horrible Post nasal drip and that caused me to have bad breath as well. I tried Astelin, zyrtec, claritin, alavert, tavist nothing worked for me. My doctors became so frustrated and a few gave up on me. Well, I now have a new doctor and she suggested I try Benadryl. It works, for the first time in a while I can smell, I don't have facial pain from the swelling and my throat doesn't hurt. The only problem is I now live my life glued to my watch since I have to take Benadryl every four hours. My question is: 1) Has anyone else had such bad luck with other meRAB that are thought to be the best? My doctor found it odd that Astelin didn't work for me it works for every one else and it thought of as the Cadillac of antihistamines. 2) I saw information on Xolair ( I think that's it it suppose to prevent the release of IgE histamine I think its an injection)?

I now take Singulair, a decongestant, Verimyst and Benadryl.

Thank you!

I'm surprised you can take that much benedryl and make it thru the day! It's the "PM" in Tylenol PM, you know! I take one at bedtime every night ot help me sleep.

Anyway, no, it is not uncommon to find that certain ones don't work for you. Everyone is different. Allegra is like taking a sugar pill for me - same for Claritin. Same for Singulair. Many people use them with great success. It's just trial and error for most of us.
