Hello,
I have recently moved to Bahrain from London (though I am Australian). Since I moved here I have been getting very itchy skin. It initially began on my face, however now seems to affect all of my body.
Initially I thought it were the detergent from my linen (I am living in serviced apartments) as my face seemed to be worse affected, particularly in the mornings (I tend to shower just before bed). So, I began washing my linen myself in detergent for sensitive skin. The itching went down a significant amount, however did not cease.
I have not changed my toiletries or diet (significantly) since I have moved to Bahrain. The itching seems to begin a few hours after showering and reoccurs throughout the day. The skin around my eyebrows and hairline has also become flaky. I have been using E45 cream regularly to help relieve the dryness, though it has not had an effect on the itching. I have also recently begun using an E45 Cream - Itch Relief. This has helped minimally.
I went back to London recently for one week and the itching disappeared. When I returned, I cleansed myself with baby wipes for a week (gross I know, but in the name of science...) to determine if in fact is was the water or perhaps the weather in Bahrain that is having this effect on me. The itching did not reappear until I had my first shower.
I am aware that the water in Bahrain is quite acidic/salty, and am out of other possible options. I have today begun using heated bottled water to rinse my face and body after showering to see if this reduces the itching any.
Is it possible... Could I be allergic to the tap water in Bahrain? If so, what are my options to stop the itching?
