What is the main and most important difference between the symptoms of vasomotor and allergic rinithis?
Is the

The symptoms of the two conditions are essentially identical, the difference is the cause. Allergic rhinitis is caused by environmental allergens while vasomotor rhinitis is caused by non-allergic environmental factors like cold air, changes in air temperature or any of a variety of other environmental sensitivities that are not actual allergic.

I have both and can tell you that the allergic rhinitis is triggered by pollen and mold while the vasomotor is triggered by perfume, change in climate and chemicals of all sorts. I went on a trip with my husband and we stayed in a nice hotel, but the room we stayed in had brand new rug, so I spent a lot of time on the staircase due to the chemicals in the rug!!! I was on allergy injections for a nuraber of years and then moved away. The new allergist told me I did NOT have allergic rhinitis, but the vasomotor, so it was not necessary for me to be on the injections. He had run some sort of skin test. Come to find out, he did not run the correct one and I have been miserable to over two years. Went back to the first dr. and he told me that the correct test was not done, so I am now back onto the injections and it has made all the difference in the world. The reason I tell you all of this is because I think it is most important that you have a thorough scratch done. Good luck because I would not want you to go through what I have just been through.

I thought vasomotor was where just about anything can cause you to have nose problems. For instance, if I lay on my side, my nose gets stuffy. Car heat makes my nose stuffy. Also changes in the air, barametric pressure, and all other types of stuff causes 'head issues'.

I can tell you what I have learned about the two.....I may have a little of both, however, last year when my symptoms started, my CT scan showed swollen turbinates...dr's suggested allergy testing and shots if appropriate, I did the testing, not the shots last year.....i was also told I had a deviated septum and nasal spur....so in addition to some significant seasonal and indoor allergies, I had that to contend with, it was too much to sort out actually....so I figured I would get through the winter and try to make a decision about it if and when it popped up again....it came back this spring, but I still could not make the connection to the sensitivity I had to AC on the nose and allergies....finally I started allergy shots 5 weeks ago....before then, whenever I had any AC on in a room or car, store wherever, the stuffiness, congestion and fatigue would start.....I started the shots and can see where I can tolerate more cold temps without getting the nose symptoms flaring..I might feel a little stuffed, but it has calmed down a lot....my theory: I believe that when they told me that my turbinates were swollen last year, it was due to allergies....they got better during the winter, but flared again with the spring..and AC....one doctor has said that allergies will make your nose more sensitive to cold temps.....when I look back, my nose has been affected by cold my whole life....I could never go out in the winter night without getting sick.....so I am taking a wait and see approach to see if the allergy shots will continue to shrink the turbinates and nasal merabranes...also, I have to figure out whether I am going to get the deviated septum fixed, which can cause a blockage and the same feelings of bad allergies.....I don't believe the allergy issue is an exact science...but sometimes...you have to sort it all out.....I have had family merabers who are also very sensitive to AC temps.....not sure what all that means
