I really wasn't sure if I should post this here or on the allergy board ??? But anyway, here goes. I have a diagnosis of allergic reactive asthma. I have had several lung function tests and they always show my lungs to be in great shape, moving air well, etc. I use my rescue inhaler very rarely and have only had about a dozen real asthma attacks since I was diagnosed in 2000. Most of what I experience seems to occur in my upper airway - my throat sometimes feels too narrow for air to get through. I've been told by docs this is due to swelling from exposure to allergens. This time of year in my part of Florida we experience very high pollen counts on a daily basis and I start experiencing what I call "uncomfortable" breathing. My chest feels tight and I feel that I cannot get in a good deep breath - but no wheezing. Add to this clogged sinuses, lots of mucous in the throat and terrible itching!! That is what I am dealing with today (pollen count was over 10 points all weekend and is at 9.1 today). I was curious to know if others experience this and what they do about it. In my case, I also have both an anxiety disorder and a panic disorder and this feeling of shallow breaths really raises my anxiety level (which in turn leaRAB to more difficulty in breathing). I take daily allergy meRAB and have an albuterol inhaler with me but I would just like to know if there are any other things I can try - I am very willing to learn about all my options. This all started 10 years ago after I worked in a sick building - prior to that I had little to no allergy, sinus or breathing troubles. I do not smoke and never have. I would love some advice/feedback/good thoughts - whatever! :-)
