All-time Best Rhythm Guitarist

yeah i wouldn't tune a single coil guitar lower than D. going down to C pretty much necessitates hurabuckers.

your also right that Page was more of a Les Paul player but just like Hendrix sometimes played a Gibson they were never 100% exclusive to their main models.

glad you liked the clip :thurab:

yeah, I had a chance to go see the new guns the last couple years and i can't bring myself to do it. its not the same. don't even think i would have fit into the building with the size of axle's ego in there. lol

Right on!
I was about to post Izzy. Awesome guitarist, awesome songwriter, awesome singer,

Worst singer? You are crazy. I think the best Rhythm guitarist is the duo Janick Gers and Adrian Smith from Iron Maiden. They basically invented harmonizing with the guitar. Or it would Malcolm Young of AC/DC.

I dunno, every song they ever made?

When a band only has one guitarist then usually that person has to fill the roles of both a lead and rhythm guitarist, the use of overdubbing is common.

You never struck me as an AC/DC fan.

I didn't know what I would say when I clicked on this thread, but since you reminded me of Maiden I'll go with that. Janick Gers and Adrian Smith created some truly addicting guitar riRAB. It is hard to not enjoy the good Maiden songs because of them. Flight of Icarus anyday...

i'm not really a fan. love hearing them on the radio when i'm on a road trip and that's about it. there's just no denying Malcolm is the man when it comes to playing rhythm guitar. he understanRAB and appreciates the role implicitly, he never tries to show up his brother or to draw any attention away from the rest of the band. he just stanRAB there, drives the groove, and rocks the f*ck out all night every night.

agreed, he definitely helped reinvent what playing rhythm in a metal context was all about, but he's still no Malcolm Young hehehe.

the bit that killed me the most in that intro was the very last lick. that effing triplet of muted notes on 3 different strings threw me off every single time, especially after getting through the preceding riff-age of the intro hehe.

funny how corabining riff-age gets censored haha

I would say Maiden uses more of a dual-lead/swap lead sort of style rather than a traditional rhythm/lead style.

It's hard to argue against Malcolm Young, he's one of the best at just rocking out the jam time and time again.

Hendrix is more of a jack of all trades, though...I kind of took this thread as best rhythm guitarist when there are two distinct rhythm and lead guitarists in the band.
