All my texts are coming in as symbols?!?!

@Whitey

Which ROM?? I've tried a few with no luck. Specifically, which ROM, which kernel, which android update are you having success with??

Thanks in advance!

I am having the same problem with an XV6700. I have called Cricket several times and they keep trying different things, but nothing is working. I am seriously thinking about switching to boost.

same problem here. When I called they said it was my hardware (flashed Treo 700wx) even though I have used this phone for nearly two years. I can only get readable text form the other phones on my account. Got hung up on 3 times before I requested a supervisor who said she noted the account for the local store to fix it free of charge. Doubt that will happen.

The first ROM was a custom build using a kitchen on sdx-developers, it lasted for a while but it started again. A birdy told me that radioactive froyo 1.8.3 rom will do the trick for the Samsung Moment but I haven't tried it yet the wife is using GV and is happier with it. So I am just giving cricket a hard time now sense they have acknowledged that it is mainly on their end. We tried 4 devices 2 flashed and 2 cricket branded hanRABets on her line with technical support and the only one that didn't have a problem was a Messager II.

From my understanding with tech support it is a corabination of crickets system and the hanRABets not communicating correctly.

So here are the facts...

--Cricket is aware of a problem.
--This problem has come out of nowhere (many people, including myself, have been using their flashed phone with no problem on the Cricket network for multiple years)
--Cricket has not fixed the problem in ~2+ weeks.

When is it suitable to gripe to the FCC? Not sure of exactly what rights we have as subscribers, but would a class actions lawsuit be suitable at some point (albeit extreme)?

I would hate for Cricket to continue to think that the way that it is handling the problem is even remotely okay. The company is dropping the ball big time and should be held accountable.

Thanks, Whitey!!!! Didn't realize it could be as easy as choosing another great ROM. As of 1.9.11 it's working great.

Running FROYO 1.8.6 still have root - checked with connectbot su command.

THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!! :clapping:

Before I was told it was a hardware problem, was told today it was a network issue for phones flashed from Verizon. I'll be getting a new phone I guess

I really don't think there are rights violations. You are paying for a service with no contract. You have the right to go to another provider any time you want. That is how the free market works. I could see a slight issue if this affected hardware purchased through them but it does not. If it is in fact on purpose it could be a pretty smart way to get the people with customer supplied hardware to drop their service. It doesn't seem wise to me to do that as everyone that I know that uses them, including myself are using flashed phones so I would think it would cut into a large chunk of their revenue. I don't work for them so I do not know.

lol this is what i did. worked great. Im on sprint with a samsung transform custom roms and if i have any issues wit sprint i dont really care because ill just go straight to cricket.

It's definitely not a problem with phones flashed from Verizon since the Moment is from Sprint. It isn't a hardware problem, because a re-flash will fix them and it is affecting numerous phones with different hardware (Q, 700wx, Moment, HTC 6700,) all at about the same time. It HAS to be the network, but I think since it is somewhat isolated and not widespread, although that could be debated with the nuraber of them I've seen, Cricket is either not looking into it or does not care. Just my 2 cents.

I don't think that it's either, I don't think they know how to correct the problem. But you are right it's not just Verizon devices and it's definitely not hardware and sometime a reflash will cure it, but sometimes even changing to a cricket device won't help. It is widespread and varies from different markets.
