Hello Everyone,

I am now two weeks post op as you probably noticed from the title. I am so happy that I decided to do this surgery. I was injured in a motor vehicle accident while in Iraq in 04. I have had chronic back, hip, groin, and leg pain since the accident and finally could not take it anymore. I no longer have any of the pain in my leg or hip. I of course have some pain in my back but it is not the same as before. It is a good pain like muscle strain which I can take. My only concern is that I notice the pain in my testicles has increased in frequency and it is different. Before the pain was only when I walked, now it does not matter if I am walking or not. I also can feel something I am not sure what it is. It is like a bunch of nerves or something. Has anyone run into this? Ladies you can answer if you would like. :) Other than this I am not having any issues. I can get in and out of bed no problem and am walking around ok. Sometimes I think I over do it and feel it the next day but I can handle this. Thank you all for your posts they have all been very informative. Good luck to everyone.

Hi Akartis,

I, too, am a lil over 2 weeks post op for the ALIF surgery. I had mine done dec. 16. SounRAB like you are doing great. I, of course, donot have the issue you have. Perhaps you should call your doctor and ask about the pain in your testicles. I have had nerve flare ups though. Talking about agony...oh my!!!!! I am doing better though :) Just a long, long recovery. I think I need to have more patience. I am so ready to feel better :) And I am slowly getting there .....good luck and hope you the best on your recovery!

Hi Akartis, and welcome to the board!

Congratulations on your Grand Opening! I'm glad to hear that you're much improved already. This is a huge surgery, so don't be alarmed if you have good days and bad days for no apparent reason. It can take a full year or sometimes even longer for a complete recovery, though you'll certainly feel much, much better a lot sooner than that. Maybe you'll even be one of those who heal quickly and get right back into life. But until you fuse, take it easy, walk like you're doing, and rest! Most of us have learned the hard way not to overdo it!

As far as the testicular pain, you should certainly tell your doctor. My guess (and it's only a guess, as I'm no doctor) would be that nerves were irritated during the procedure. If that's it, nerves do take a long time to calm down, anywhere from a few weeks to many months. Many of us have had nerve pains in various places following this surgery. The spine is so sensitive and has so many nerves going in and out of it that this is not all that uncommon.

Keep behaving and being a model patient. Please come back and let us know what the doctor says. What happens to one often helps another here on the board.

Thanks, and I wish you the best in your recovery.
Emily
