By far the best Alien series movie imo, but its rarely screened. You see Alien 3 in the T.V. listings every other week, would love to see Aliens in HD to be honest.
 
Massively inferior to Alien.

The more I see it the more I realise this, I bloody loved Aliens as a teenager though and I still think it's great and a worthy sequel, It's just not as good as I once thought. It's full of some great characters and one liners, shame that these days Cameron has lost the ability to create great characters like this.
 
The only sequel that instantly comes to mind as being better than the first film. I think its James Cameron's finest work, apparently the blu-ray is due out later this year.

One of my fav sequels ever,the directors cut is even better,u are right joe,alien 3 is on every other week on sky,kinnda like robin hood prince of theives,kinnda sick of looking at that one but ive never seen aliens on sky movies once,they have a bad habit of putting crap on through the day and putting good movies on at silly hours in the morning.
 
I've always loved this film since I was a child. I like Alien and Aliens, not keen on 3 and 4 though. I agree would love to see either Alien or Aliens in HD, I saw Alien 3 on SKY HD a few months ago.
 
Love the film - watched it first when I was a lil tike and still love it to this day - I cant compare the first and second one as i they have totally different 'feels' to it.
 
I prefer Alien, but as others have said; they're two different movies so it's hard to compare in many respects.

I like the more basic approach to the first film, few characters and just one, horrid thing in the darkness. The second film is amazing, relentless ride, but it doesn't have the same horrific quality as the original (which I, personally prefer).

Oddly enough I had a freaky dream about Alien last night - Veronica Cartwright was doing her squirmy, afraid face in a corner and the xenomorph was advancing ridiculously slowly. Also had a weird Aliens inspired one a while back, but that occupied the more... downright ridiculous dreamworld, lol.
 
Aliens was one of my favourite films as a kid..much prefer it to Alien, which is still v good but I don't find it as gripping. I also find Alien has aged more technically whereas Aliens still stanRAB up pretty well.

although I vividly remember sitting on the floor infront of the TV in the summer holidays eating boiled egg and toast, and the bit where the person in the walls says "kiiiiiiiill me" and the alien bursts out of her chest, made me throw up...lol
 
One of the few superb sequels in cinema. I agree with the posters who argue you can't compare the first two films, they really have little in common aside from the Alien itself. They're both masterpieces of their respective genres, and should both be celebrated rather than needlessly compared.
 
i LOVE them all, my favourite horror franchise! they're brilliant, Alien is a classic,Aliens is a classic too! and one of the few sequels that match the original,Alien 3 is underrated and i love it, Alien Resurrection is just fun and thrilling stuff!
 
Alien 3 really is underrated. I still liked it when i first saw it, but if you watch the "Assembly Cut" that's on the latest DVD's (and hopefully part of the new Blu Ray boxset) the film is infinitely better due to the 30 minutes of added footage. There's more character development, and consequently the story flows better.
 
All 4 Alien films tentatively scheduled for a Bluray boxset at the end of this year.

Historically significant as the first major VHS release in the UK to use Macrovision copy protection
