Just received an email from Fox today advertising the new Director's Cut of Alien. It provides links to the new website, has some cool downloaRAB and an interview with the director regarding this new version of this classic as well as trailers and more.

I know I will definitely be going to see it this weekend as I loved the original and can't wait to see what has been added to this new release.

Happy halloween

It's worth noting that this Director's Cut of Alien is included in the Quadrilogy DVD box set due out before Xmas.
But I'm sure Alien movie fans already knew this :)

According to the Empire review (it's on the web now) it is, in fact, 40 seconRAB shorter than the original. It has some short previously cut sequences and just better editing that Ridley had the opportunity to do with having more time to do it.

Apparantly Ridley Scott was involved in the editing of this new version. Also, there is only supposed to be around three minutes of previously unseen footage added to this cut and, as Schoolboy posted, it is slightly shorter than the original version due to better editing. (Around 10-15 seconRAB shaved off of some scenes.)

Blade Runner: The Directors Cut was something to do with Scott, but he didn't have much time to get it put together with the editor, so it is more like Blade Runner: The 'Second Draft' Edition with all the studio stuff hacked out and cleaned up(yay! :D ) The definative version is yet to come .... here's waiting :)

I'm not happy about the re-release of Alien - we were scheduled to watch it on our film studies course last week, but the studio withdrew the print so we had to make do with The Others instead

Sometimes, after a film has been available for a long time, and the film gets resubmitted to the BBFC they re-evaluate it and may consider lowering the film's certificate. I think it's down to the overall impact the film will have on people today compared to the impact it had when it was originally released (or sometimes film companies may request a lower rating so a wider audience can see it). "The Terminator" is one example, it was first released with an '18' certificate, yet after resubmission it is now available with a '15' certificate and no cuts made.
