Anyone else looking forward to getting the new 9 disc DVD set of the Alien quadrilogy?

All 4 films will have new footage added, and Alien 3 will have over half an hour added, I can't wait! Each film will also have an extra disk with even more special features on it, and theres even a bonus 9th disk with even more special features! It's the ultimate box set ever, and its out in just over a fortnight!

Anyone onna get it, or have it pre-ordered?

I have mine pre-ordered at Play.com, and it was only

It's the first thing on my christmas list :D :) I haven't got alien(s/3/resurrection) on DVD, having let my brother buy the original set for himself. Now that I am back and forth between Uni, it's amazing just how you notice the lack of your own good movies :D

The box set looks fantastic, although I understand why Fincher stayed well clear of Fox for this boxed set. There was a great 30 minute making of Aliens made by Special Treats and only ever shown once by ThamesTV which really showed how much of a tyrant James Cameron was on set. As the crew tried to pull the facehuggers on wires towarRAB camera, Cameron - not happy with the results on screen- shouted at all of them to go and get gloves on right now and just grumbled on as the narrator continued his script. Be nice to have that MO on the Disc. I found my Alien video facehugger suitcase set the other night back from '93- it's a shame the new quadrilogy can't have what this video set did: A 2 for 1 entry pass to Alien War at the Trocadero London for one year. What a blast that was!

So, why is it, then?
I get the impression the makers of these DVD's wanted to do all the movies justice. If you follow the explanation in the Alien

An interview with Fincher on Radio 4 the month Alien 3 came out made it clear that Brandywine messed him around so much and Fox wanted to take the whole thing away from him- nervous at this first time director screwing things up that he more or less said there and then he would never talk about Alien3 ever again. Cinefantastique tried to talk to him about it and in the end had to use the Radio 4 interview. And now if Fox have messed around with his original cut he'd want to distance himself even further. In fact I'm a touch suprised that he didn't try to do what David Lynch did when ABC recut his Dune for TV and changed the credit to Alan Smithee.

Got mine this afternoon! Great. Can't watch it yet as my DVD player isn't set up, but Alien 3 will be the first film I watch.

I read the little booklet that came with it in the meantime, and it gives a small explanation on the page for Alien 3, saying all about the rumours and controversy the film caused. It states that the film is not a directors cut, it is just a special edition, and it also noted that the film has the new features that were removed, and most surprising of all, it says that the film was made by David Fincher, and they even call him a "very talented director". Wow, FOX changed their tune!

Mine arrived today- Just watched the making of on Alien, and laughed myself stupid as Veronica Cartwright flips over during the chestburst scene!

Looking forward to Alien3 and seeing these extended scenes, for some strange reason I found 3 to be my favourite, probably as it was so different to the first two.

I received mine on Tuesday. I don't want to spoil it for you, but I do have to say that I am dissappointed with Alien 3.

The scenes that are supposed to be added are mostly one word or two worRAB added on to existing scenes. There is only about 2 or 3 completely new and never seen before scenes in the film.

I would say that in total there is only about 10 minutes of footage that I have never seen before, yet the DVD boasts 30. There are scenes with some less quality picture and sound but I have these scenes on an original Alien 3 DVD and the picture and sound on those scenes are prefect. Whats going on?

The film is suposed to be extended from 2hrs 10 min to 2hrs 40min, yet I watched the special edition version and it only lasts 2hrs 10min! What the hell?!?! Havn't watched any of the other films yet, but I will be soon, as I wasn't able to get my DVD player working until last night...

I think it was a huge change this Extended Cut made to the whole movie.
When I saw it at the cinema years ago I really disliked this movie and hadn't seen it since.
Now this new version just blew me away. The changes ARE huge and prove that even a short reaction shot or one sentence extra dialogue can make a difference.

Don't know where you got the lenghts from. The original was 114 min, the new cut 145 min (in NTSC)

I saw it with the "SPECIAL EDITION" marker on the Region 1 and believe me it's more than 10 minutes of added scenes.
