Alien 5

Sigourney Weaver confirmed that she did pass on doing a fifth Alien film accoring to Dark Horizons website:

"Sigourney Weaver recently revealed that those old rumors were true - she had definitely considered making another "Alien" movie with director Ridley Scott.

"The last time [Ridley and I] saw each other we talked about it. The character is still interesting [and] I'd love to work with Ridley again" she told MTV News this week.

Unfortunately something has nixed those plans - "Fox has effectively killed it because of 'Alien vs. Predator.' What else can you do with the creature? You can take the situation, you can go back to where they came from. ...To play someone who ages a couple hundred years was fascinating. [But] let [Ripley] rest."

Well i'm glad there won't be any more Ripley Alien movies now that the franchise has been turned into nothing more than big commercial genereic sic-fi with the crappy AvP and the crappier AvP 2

She's been saying the same for a while now.
The way things are going it's only a matter of time before Alien vs Predator vs Terminator.
I think the Alien and its life cycle are over exposed anyway. Explaining where they come from takes away some of the mystery and horror much like the AVP movies have done.

This quotation contradicts itself. I dont really trust it and there are too many missing gaps. Do you have a source?

I have the Alien Quadrilogy dvd and she clearly states she would be interested in a sequel with Ridley Scott. And that was a few years AFTER Alien Resurection

I know that she was quoted as saying the concept of AVP was terrible, or something like that, But I hope that doesn't deter them from making a fifth. This story neeRAB to be resolved! It can't just end with them arriving at Earth!

I've just re-read them, and it appears I'm still missing the point you're making.

The statements in the OP aren't necessarily contradictory, just badly punctuated. The last time she spoke to Scott, they were talking about doing it (i.e. the statement about the character being "still interesting" was part of that conversation with Ridley).

Subsequent to that, the AvP films came out.

The latter part talks about the aliens/xenomorphs in the first sentence, then about Ripley after the "(...)". The last sentence is a statement of conclusion, not specifically about the prior sentence (about Ripley in A:R). It's not helped by MTV 'helpfully' adding "but" and "Ripley" themselves. It's very clunky, but I'm pretty sure that's the contexts.

Without wishing to get dragged down in your details I shall say this:

I very much doubt that lovers of the original series would consider AVP 1 and 2 to be a true part of the series, and I cant imagine for one second that it would deter Ridley Scott or Signourey Weaver from making another together.

They were both clear they were enthusiastic about making a sequel on the Quadrilogy box set and I have not read a credible source since AVP that states otherwise.

It was clear to most people from the start that AVP would be a third rate project, featuring unheard of actors and a rather poor director. The writing was on the wall and most of the people involved in Alien 1-4 distanced themselves in the press from it.

As I said initially - I await the source of the above quote. I don't buy it.

Fair enough. But she is rather prone to a bit of convincing.

She's said no to the the franchise a few times in the past and had her mind changed.

And I can imagine Ridley Scott can be very charming..:)

Seconded. I was a bit taken aback by Alien3 at first, but have come to like it over the years, especially the special edition which fills in most of the gaps left by the theatrical version.

Alien resurection was simply a cynical studio cash in.

Yes I agree Alien 3 as it is on Quadrilogy dvd is a lot better than the theatrical release.

Why does the fourth one have such a bad reputation though? Its got a good director who has given it a cool gothic look, and some fine actors. I think its had bad press.

Come on, the aliens underwater bit scared ME..
