algebra multplying #s written in scientific notation?

(6 times 10 to the 8 power)(6 times 10 to the negative 2 power)
i know the anwser is 3.6 times 10 to the 7 power but i need to show my work and it seems i just cant do that
this is what i did for my work but it didnt work

(6 times 10 to the 8 power)(6 times 10 to the negative 2 power)
(6 times 6)(10 to the 8 power times 10 to the negative 2 power)
(36)(10to the 6 power)

HELP!!!
