kick him out? Nephew is a SEVERE alcholic and calls home also indicate he has thought about suicide...but he REFUSES to go to AA (he was made to once for showing up drunk to PT too often, but didn't work the program, just went through the motions until they quit making him go), he flat out says he doesn't want to go to AA for help, it doesn't work, he wants to keep drinking...etc...etc... He is a total addict, every word is a different lie, steals to support his habit, addiction causes him lots of problems with work, and he *says* that if he gets in trouble one more time the army will give him a dishonorable discharge...said that the AA folks told him he needed to go to a treatment facility where he would be watched 24/7...
Anyway, my question is, if the family could somehow contact his commanding officers and tell them that this soldier is a suicidal addict, would the army bother to *MAKE* him go to a treatment facility, or would they probably just say to heck with it and kick him out/dishonorable discharge?
We can't get him to go voluntarily....
He has been in trouble multiple times with the army and how they have not kicked him out yet is beyond me...
He's not in denial, he totally gets that he is an alcoholic but he has no interest in doing anything about it...nothing is ever *HIS* fault...he mouths off to his superiors and constantly has to do extra PT for it but apparently it doesn't help him learn to shut up, says that he is violent when he doesn't drink....
What does anyone WITH EXPERIENCE in the military think about the possibility of contacting his CO ans asking for help?
See, if they said NO and kicked him out without forcing him into a program, there's no way he'd do it on his own, plus he'd be depressed about the dishonorable discharge and afraid of what he'd do...
Ideas? This sucks.
