Im austin 20 years old. In high school i used drugs recreationally with my buddys not thinking much of it, however im obviously not in highschool anymore and im still using most of these drugs(mostly xanax and alcohol) often by myself and for some reason almost ALWAYS at night for some reason thats just when i feel the urge to drink or do drugs, ive kept this addiction in check for the most part as far as not letting it get worse, but i dont want to do them at all!.....if anyone can offer some ideas on how to get past these urges id appreciate it

Get to an AA or Alanon meeting!! You need the support. You will be amazed at the support you get

Please get some qualified help immediately. My younger sister had the same problem- pills and alcohol PM. Seemed harmless enough to her and worked to get her to sleep at night for many years. One night last August she went to sleep and never woke up.

Mixing prescription pills and alcohol is like playing Russian Roulette with your life. What you got away with yesterday could kill you today. Even mixing a prescribed dosage with alcohol can impair your judgement enough to make you think taking more is OK. That could be deadly.

Sorry for the strong wording- your life is not worth losing this way. We are all heartbroken; my sister was a wonderful person in every way. Now she won't be remerabered as the person who helped others, she will be remerabered as the person who died of a drug and alcohol overdose.

Please stop mixing immediately and get some help! Good luck.

Please ask for help,god will help you if you ask him.I know how hard it is to quit but you will still be here if you go ahead and get off them beasts,gonna be sum restless issues and all.Check out the thomas recipe and i wish you the best to beat it.

Every reply you have gotten on this post is great advice, I am an alcoholic/addict and I've realized this and accepted it. From your post it seems like you realize this for yourself. What I did for myself was get into a detox and aftercare. If that isn't an option get to an AA/NA meeting and listen, when you get comfortable get a sponsor and build a network, surround yourself with people in recovery, it might not sound fun but I've never had so much fun in my life until i quit drinking and drugging. If you don't like the meeting/meetings, keep on going there, there will be something you will hear to give you some strength and hope to battle this disease. Also pray to a higher power of your understanding, for me it is God. And at the meetings, if you don't like how someone is speaking always remeraber it's the message not the messanger.

Heh austin7153 my name is Iain i live in Glasgow Scotland, you`ve done well to not let it get worse my experience is that it will if you don`t try and do something about it now mate, i just turned 34 a few days ago and only recently started getting somewhere regarding my own addiction and thats been since i was about 18 or 19 i`ve been clean now for almost 3 months and although i would`nt change my life i certainly would`nt wish it upon anyone, and i don`t believe i`ve had a really chaotic life so far but at times it has been pretty bad, i think i read someone suggesting A.A or maybe N.A both worth a try and don`t judge any meeting by the first one go to a few you may find one you are comfortable at, it`s your decision mate i can only suggest up to know going to my meetings has helped me being around people who want the same thing as you, peace.
Don`t believe for one minute that you`ve got it under control cause that just the addict part of your brain telling you that, so that you carry on using cause thats what it wants.
Tackle the problem now and enjoy being a young adult i had to endure being that and as i said am only now geting some sort`ve quality in my life.
Think of this mate IF WE PRAY TO GOD FOR COURAGE, DO YOU THINK HE JUST GIVES US COURAGE, OR MAYBE JUST MAYBE HE PROVIDE`S THE OPPERTUNITY TO BE COURAGOUS, this may not seem like an oppertunity to you being the age you are but it is and whether you take it now or like me 15 years down the line but remeraber i was lucky enough to still be alive, i`ve O.D`D on 2 occasions.
You certainly don`t HAVE to take my advise, you don`t HAVE to do anything but you could read this and hopefully take something from it.
It really does`nt mater that we may be on different parts of the globe separated by thousanRAB of miles addiction still carries it`s poisonous message and the story is always the same no matter who i talk to or where they may be, the worRAB may be different but the chaos and torment that drink and drugs cause`s are the same the world over whether you believe that or not.
You make some smart decisions. and if you`ve any problems don`t hesitate i might not be much help but at least i know the cross roaRAB you are at because i`ve been there myself.
Anyway i always start writing and sometimes forget to stop.
Take Care. Iain.:wave::dizzy:
