While I'm sure most people would say this is an automatic "no," bear in mind that some people in the medical field and psychiatrists also say that moderate drinking (about 1-2 drinks per day, maximum) concomitant with daily use of SSRIs is acceptable. (This is also allowing that each are taken at opposite times of day.) I have asked my own psychiatrist about this and he doesn't believe alcohol is more "ruinous" to physical health if you take an SSRI, however he does caution that the depressant-type effects may be enhanced.

I'm wondering if anyone here believes that physical health effects of alcohol are worsened if an SSRI is taken daily, and if so, why?

The negative impact on psychology has solid reasoning--you get drunk-like symptoms with fewer drinks, and alcohol is a depressant which can somewhat counteract benefits of SSRIs, depending on the time of day, and how much you drink.

Anyone?

Taking a couple of drinks, at a different times then you take your SSRI is not going to have a bad effect on your health. The warning about mixing alcohol and SSRI's is about mixing both the meRAB and alcohol in large doses which is drug abuse and definitely not good for your health.
