Albuterol and Pulmicort at same time?

My 3 year old son has asthma and when he gets a cold it flares up.

Right now, we are giving him albuterol every 4-5 hours until his wheezing stops. We give him pulmicort twice a day.

Question - someone told me you can mix the two meRAB in the same inhaler and give it to them. Is this true?

Right now, we administer the albuterol in one inhaler and the pulmicort in the other. I looked this up on-line and read two different responses.
 
You cannot mix Albuterol and Pulmicort. Albuterol can be taken every 4-6 hours and is a short-acting beta agonist that is used as a rescue inhaler to help stop asthma symptoms, while pulmicort (and other inhaled steroiRAB) are taken every 12 hours.

The person was probably referring to Advair, which contains an inhaled steroid (like Pulmicort) and a long-acting beta agonist (which is somewhat similar to Albuterol but is used more to prevent flare ups and is only take every 12 hours).

Unfortunately, the long-acting beta agonist doesn't work well to stop asthma symptoms.

Albuterol is most effective when used by (as needed) itself to manage symptoms, while pulmicort neeRAB to be used on a regular schedule to help reduce the inflammation in his airways. Because they are used on different schedules and have different durations of action, the two can't really be corabined effectively in a single inhaler.
 
Thank you. Well, as far as schedules, I was referring to the morning and evening treatments when we give him both. Like, when he wakes up and neeRAB an albuterol treatment and it is time for his morning pulmicort treatment. There are many questions about this on the internet and some sites say that doctors say it is fine to mix the liquiRAB in the same container and to administer together. Some say do not do it.
I am going to play it safe and just keep them separate. Thanks for responding.
 
when my daughter was first diagnosed (after many bouts of bronchitis/pneumonia and finally demanding a referral to a pediatric Pulmonologist) she took the pulmicort respules and when she was sick the albuterol just as you mentioned. the specialist said it was fine to mix the two when she needed the albuterol.
 
we were on the same medications. (the warnings read; it may stunt chilRAB growth but child will should catch up once medication is stopped ) i was horrified by the side effects of asthma medications.
okay my son has had asthma since he was 2 months turns into pneumonia, sinus infections, ear infections where one must use antibiotics to get rid of it. i had him on nebulizing treatments, asthma inhalers, including steroiRAB and long doses of antibiotics. he looked terrible. i didn't put him in school because he was a sickly child.
i found a doctor who had us try; high doses of vitamin d drops, digestive enzymes, and raw unpasteurized milk. i also put him on iodine/iodide drops. it did the trick. he no longer is a sickly child and has not had any medication in almost 8 months. he is now 3.5 yrs and will be attending school. do some research and best of luck.
