Alarm / Immobiliser 1999 Honda Civic?

Daft question, but one I don't know the answer to. How can I tell if the alarm is working, and how do I tell the immobiliser is working too?
Clever answers of 'throw a brick through the window' etc are just a waste of your time, and the oldest answer in the book. Thanks in advance to serious posters.

to test the alarm you can open the driver's door window, get out of the car and shut the door. then use the remote to arm the alarm system. then reach inside the window, unlock the door and open it. the alarm should go off. you'll need to use the remote to cancel the alarm.

the immobilizer really can't be tested unless you have an 'unauthorized' key. An unauthorized key is one that is cut to match the existing key but is not programmed to the control unit for the fuel injection. an unauthorized key will allow the engine starter to engage but it won't fire up. if the car doesn't start with an unauthorized key, the immobilizer is working. A green key icon on the instrument gauge cluster will flash if the key is not authorized.

hope that helps
