SAN FRANCISCO -- Airbnb today launched all the tools necessary to list accommodations from the palms of those using leading smartphones.
The startup, based here, unleashed new versions of apps for Apple's iOS and Google's Android that enable hosts to offer complete listings via smartphones and accept payments.
"We really think that mobile makes our service better, and by having more hosts on mobile it makes our experience better. It's going to make our hosts more responsive," says co-founder and CTO Nate Blecharczyk.
Airbnb has 350,000 hosts who use its service to post their personal properties as rentals. The service allows people to book their homes when unoccupied, making for quirky rentals that come fully furnished. The services is available in more than 34,000 cities worldwide.
Airbnb's growing network of enterprising renters previously had to complete their new listings on the Web.
The personal rentals destination has launched a mobile dashboard, dubbed Host Home, that gives hosts the ability to respond to messages, accept bookings, manage calendars and incoming guests as well as request photography.
For travelers, Airbnb has simplified the booking process on smartphones to make it easier to click and book. The company is now also featuring a Discover feed that shows off some of its flashier properties to give people rental ideas.
Airbnb's blew up the image sizes to create more of a magazine appearance, including an ability to scroll sideways. People looking for a place may also notice that reviews have been bumped up to the top.
