AIM video chat wont work for me?

I just bought a logitech quickcam chat today and i plugged it in and installed it without the cd. i went to use it with my BF but when he sends me a request and i accept, nothing shows up and when i send him a request and he accepts, nothing shows up for him either. i tried to perhaps get the cd and install with the cd but it said i was already installed, which i thought i was. i tried turning off my firewall and it didnt work. the cam said my computer was not eaxactly the recommended system, but that it would still work. my computer is a windows xp
do i need to update something? please help =(
