I'm not going to abuse him with it or anything like that, but I use it in case he rears up at me or strikes out and me or charges me (he has done all of these things) and today I was working with him and I had the crop in my boot as a precaution. My Grandma saw it and made me put it up even though she has saw him strike out at me once, she doesn't believe me when I told her that he rears up at me and that he charged me a couple days ago. She's seen him rear up at my trainer, and Olivia has seen him rear up at me. When I told her "remember when he reared up at Katlin that one time? He does that to me, too!" and you know what she said? "I haven't seen him do that, and if he did you were doing something wrong to make him mad." Well, I think I should be able to lunge, ride, pet, love on him without him rearing up at me! How do I convince her to let me have a crop out there with me?
He stopped rearing when in the saddle. He''ll rear up with you on the ground.

You may not need a crop, but it is very use full if he is trying to hurt you. (Usually horses aren't trying to hurt you, just scare you off....) Tell her that if you don't you could get hurt. I'm sure she doesn't want that..? If you really want to use the crop. Sometimes a slap in the neck or nose will do it.. I usually don't carry anything like a crop or stick into the pasture with me. If my horse is bad, she gets a smack. No, I'm not abusing her, I'm teaching her right from wrong. I cannot hurt my horse by slapping her. It only scares her enough and shows her I can use force if I need too. It shows your horse that you are capable of giving it back to them. If your horse does this a lot, have your trainer focus on that. You need that to stop now. A horse that rears and charges can be very dangerous to people and itself. If you were to get hurt? A friend? Your trainer? Your horse? It's not a good situation. Even if you are 100% no crop, find something else you can use... a stick? your hand? My mini bucks and rears all the time! ( because he's a colt.)I know he is smaller, but still, he would get a similar punishment. He reared up at me, and got slapped in the neck. He ran off, he didn't fight back. That's a horse's natural instinct, to flee when they are afraid. And usually they will. Or at least take a few steps back. Also, you could try a lead rope. Clip him to it, or hold it in your hand. When he goes to do whatever it is that he is being bad, slap him with the rope. He will catch on fast. I hope your Grandma realizes that if you don't use force, you don't show your horse who's the boss, then your horse is the boss, and you are not having a good time. Whether it's from the hospital, or watching your horse be sold because of his actions. I'm not saying you should sell him. No. Work with him, with your trainer. Anyone that can help. You have to get him straitened out. I know this was about convincing your grandma to let you use the crop, but I hope this was helpful as well.
