Agree to new wireless contract - new phone?

My current contract with verizon ends in October. If I renew my contract but keep my current phone instead of upgrading it (as I'm entitled to at the discounted price - new every two program), will I still be eligible for discounted pricing when the Palm Pre becomes available for verizon - rumored to be available early 2010? Basically, how long does the discounted pricing stay in effect?

One other question - if I keep everything the same when I renew my contract in October and then have to make changes to my plan when I do eventually upgrade my phone, will I have to sign a new 2 year contract at that time or would I still be eligible for the discounted phone pricing even though I'd have to make changes to the plan? I have a very basic phone plan right now so I'll need to upgrade my plan if I get the phone I want - could be the Pre...maybe the Storm 2 - also rumored to be available sometime soon.
 
If you want the Pre at the discounted price, wait until the Pre is available at Verizon before renewing your contract. The discount is good only with a new contract. If you do anything before the Pre is available, you will forfeit your chance to get the discount.

Once your contract expires in October, you will be on a month to month basis with the same terms as your current contract.
