So today I was walking around campus and these two guys with suitcases run up to me... one of them aggressively stands right in front of me so that I couldn't walk any further without saying something. They explain that they're from Korea or something and that they want to spread the word of Jesus Christ. I lie and say that I'm running late for lunch with a friend. Then they tell me to sit down and that they're going to show me a 3-5 minute video, and one of them puts his arm on my shoulder as if to try to get me to sit down, and I grudgingly oblige... the video, which they have on a netbook, lasts 10 minutes and is barely intelligible... it's completely subtitled and it's written in VERY bad English.
So then it finishes and I tell them the video is "interesting" but that I'm agnostic, and when he pulls out the Bible and starts reading Revelations I insist again that I need to get on to lunch with my friend... then he quotes the verse about how non-believers will not inherit the kingdom of God and basically starts on this inarticulate rant about how non-believers are all going to Hell... then he asks, "Don't you care about your eternity? Don't you want your soul to be saved?" Then they both start speaking at the same time, reading Bible verses in a very loud voice, which devolves into them talking very loudly to each other in Korean, presumably about me...
... at this point I stand up and walk away, scared, and one of them gets in front of me again and asks if we can meet up again later - he jabs a pen and a pad in my hand and tells me to write down my phone number and name. I aggressively handed it back to him and started to RUN away with them following me. I imagine it was quite a sight.
My question is, why do they have to be SO persistent? I don't really have anything wrong with witnessing, it's just that when someone says no, they should get the picture. Maybe they were con artists or something?
What do people like this have to gain from making people feel uncomfortable and scared?
