aggressive fish, how?

I am curious about housing aggressive fish, or at least as they are noted at the aquarium store I have been using. I am looking to get a 20gal later this year, right now I have a 10 gal with 2 dwarf cory's and a handful of flame tetra's. I am thinking about either tiger barbs or a pair of angelfish. I keep seeing both fish are said to be aggressive fish, but how? Aggressive towards their own, to others, can they be put with other aggressive fish or would their long fins be too tempting to nip at?
Also, having just started looking into the bigger tank, I do want 1 algae eater of some type. My 10 gal took over 2 months to start to develop any sort of algae and the bigger tank would be in the same room most likely, with no direct sunlight.
