okay i have a 2 1/2 yr old 60lb pit bull... he has been favoring his knee and on his right leg took to vet and he had to be muzzled... for examination. doc says it Patellar Luxation - Luxating Kneecaps and that it would be best for surgery. My question is my dog is aggressive and when he is in pain he can be aggressive to me or my boyfriend.. i work with animals so i know what to look for when i need to leave him alone.. and i know the process is slow for healing and he may still be in pain.. i'm afraid he'll be more aggressive and then we may not be able to control his reactions and something happens to where we have no other choice but to put him down and I REALLY DON'T WANT TO DO THAT!!! i love my dog i'm just scared so here's the details..... he's aggressive when he's in pain he's a fear biter and not socialized, hes deaf and was left in a box in a parking lot when he was a puppy not even 6 weeks old yet, he is kennel aggressive and small room aggressive.. whether it's a kennel or a bedroom with the door closed i don't put him in situations i can't control.. so this is one of them, he'll have to be sedated to go to the vets and put under for surgery and then heal at a slow pace probably drugged and very limited exercise and be in pain., he'll have to be carried upstairs and down stairs to use the bathroom. so see my issues and fears
what would you do? get the surgery and have him in pain knowing he'll be angry at us because of pain and not know what he's gonna do or take the risk and hope for the best?
yes in training going to talk to trainer about it tomorrow.. i'm not afraid of the dog himself, i've dealt with him at his most aggressive stage and have come out perfectly fine and was able to snap him out of it. he is getting better and we avoid things to set him off... i'm afraid of putting him to sleep. I DON'T WANT TO KILL MY DOG BECAUSE HE IS GETTING BETTER, AND I DON'T WANT TO SET HIM BACK WITH THE PROGRESS HE'S MADE..because of the healing process.. thats my concern... please understand the question.. i don't want to lose my dog over something like this
