age and anxiety

is it normal to still have major panic and anxiety at he age of 67 i had has this since my late teens, then it went away for a while after i had my son at age 23..only to return at 40 and never leave for the last 27 yrs!! now i wake in my sleep at 3am heart pounding fear of death, fear of leaving my pet dog with no one to care for her,,,she is a hyper Lab and no one wants her i have spoiled her but i love her!!!! chest pain stomach prob..etc i have klonopin and xanax but they help for a short while i donotwant to take these pills all the time fear of addiction..i am really down about this.
 
I am 67 also and still suffer from anixety. Mostly it is a deep rooted
fear of death like you their is not a day i dont think about it it keeps
me from going to the Doctors and doing alot of thinks
