Aftermarket Jeep Cherokee Air Filters?

I'm able to get a drop in k&n air filter for like 20 bucks. Its for a 99 Cherokee XJ 4.0 automatic, but from a 97 or 98. Will it fit and is this going to make a difference in mileage and power or be a waste of money? How do I open the stock box to get the old one out?
Can I use this with a bored throttle body?
 
I love K&N and for $20 you cant beat a million mile air filter.
You probably wont notice much of a difference in mileage or power but you will never have to buy another air filter again and that is where you will see the savings.
