Hello all,
I have just undergone Lurabar decompression surgery (L4 laminectomy, bilateral UFCs, Rt L4/5 disectomy )and have been home from hospital now for 1 week.
At the moment i seem to be experiencing lower back pain when sitting down for more than 5 minuets my hips are bad and some nights i experience pain in my legs while lying down on my side. I can walk without a cane for about 15min and then my legs and back have had enough and must lie down for a while.
Is this to be expected ?

Thanks for any advise.

Dear badbackagain yes I have my second surgery was a hemilaminectomy of the L4-L5 disc for nerve decompression.
This left me with a total collapse of the L3 disc now and I experience a lot of muscle and nerve spasms and mid line pressure as a result.
Not much can be done in my case because of the lower steffee fusion,so I hope yours settles and you dont have further complications.
So yes this is to be expected sorry - all the best Judi

You just had surgery and it's only a week! Of course it is to be expected as well as manipulation of the nerve during surgery its aggervated. Rest your back when you need to, and yes sitting is hard for about 2-3 months, I was told no sitting for any longer than 15 minutes. It will fade and subside but you haveto remeraber that nerve is pissssed off lol so it will take some time for it to calm down. Alot of surgical pain resides in the hips that was the longer lasting pain for me surgically after my 3/4 and 4/5 microdiscectomy. Give it time, believe me, you cant rush a single thing now, it just takes time for it to heal, ice when you need to, don't over do it at all and rest when you feel you need to.

Ditto! It's gonna take some time. Put new batteries in your remotes and lay down! Walk as much as you're able when you get up to use the bathroom, but stop when your body tells you to. I had a very hard time sitting after my fusion. My doctor actually gave me a 15 minute sitting restriction for the first 6 weeks. Not to worry, I couldn't sit for even that long!

As Roses said, use ice if it helps, or heat if that's better for you. I love my heating paRAB!

And keep your meRAB in your system even if you have a day when you think you can taper back. You're early on in your recovery. If you skip doses, it's going to be harder to get it back under control when the pain picks up again. And it will! You'll heal better if you aren't using your energy to bear through pain.

Hang in there. It'll get better and it'll all be worth it!
