After reading this short article (by me), do you think I could handle a

NASCAR sprint cup race car (wheel men)? (and wheel ladies : )

Well, it begins with a little story from the past. I was about 25 and had a Pontiac Trans-Am with a 400 in it, manual factory 4 speed. I had just replaced motor in it (slung a rod in the other one) and still had the hood off with hood hinges sticking up on the car. I didn't have the shifter set back right because I was test driving it with the new motor... 2/3 linkage was out of adjustment. But riding through my small home town in Mississippi, I was met with a guy wit a 454 Elcamino. He wanted to run it. I told him I wuz not ready yet and my linkage was still off, but he kept harping on me. So I finally gave in. We went out on access road and ran a drag race. The linkage was so bad I missed 2nd the first time and he took off and I waited at the start line. He came back and asked "What happened"? I told him "Hey man I told you my linkage wasn't right but we'll try it again if you want to". This time I knew I had to keep pressure to the left as I went from 1st to second to keep if from automatically jumping into 4th. We were off...!!! 1st to second I speed shifted and same from second to third. As I crossed the finish line I looked in my rear view mirror to see where he was and he was way back. It puzzled me why he was way back there and it kept my attention in the rear view mirror a little longer than I intended. Next thing I know was I heard gravel on the shoulder of the road at about 135 mph. The car started fish-tailing and getting sideways doing 135 as I crossed the finish line and speed shifted into 4th just to let people on the finish line know what my car sounded like when I speed shifted into 4th. But when the car got sideways, the person in the passenger side was freaking out ... but I calmly used one hand to straighten the car back up and get it back on the road.

Okay the technique was just a one-handed maneuver to wheel the car back straight. The technique I hear some of the old timers say is best to use, when driving a NASCAR sprint cup race car, is to use one hand and place your *forearm* across the wheel to get better control. But I never use that technique, I just use one arm to wheel a car.

So which is better? The old school method? or does it really make a **** what style you use as long as you can wheel the car?

And do you think I could wheel a car around an oval track at a NASCAR track?

Honest opinions wheel people.
