after how long should i get algae eaters for my 10 gallon fish tank?

I have a 10 gallon fish tank with a filter, light, and heater... i have 8 very small fish and i am not planning on getting anymore and i have had the aquarium set for 2 weeks straight now and i don't see any algae yet... when should i get an algae eater; Plecostomus and what fod can it survive on if there is no algae for him to consume?
 
Stay away from chinese algea eaters they can be agressive and kill your fish my aunt has a 10 gallon with a few mollies and a chines algea eater and it keep killing the mollies and plecostamus do fine in a 10 gallon I have one they grow to the size of there enviroment but you might get cory cats they eat the crap off the bottom
