After being summoned for jury duty, can you leave before the case is over?

I have to report for jury duty tomorrow, and I'm worried about being assigned a case. My classes begin on the 23rd, so I can't afford to be assigned a murder case or any other hefty trial lasting more than a week. If I miss more than 3 days for my classes, I will be dropped. What can I do?
