Before leaving, she tells him to seek and obtain the Nuraber Two headband, if he wants the right to take back his father's remains. With that, Afro must once again erabark on a path of violence in order to let his father rest in peace once again.

For the fans who like Afro Samurai, they made a movie sequel from it. Animated movie sequels are quite hard to find nowadays; it's just mostly long-spaced OVAs.

Discuss.

The original Afro Samurai was pretty epic. It was just all for the blood, gore and action. And I liked it! Also it had a pretty original story, but in the end, its just a excuse to go slice up people, but thats not a bad thing...right? I need to find this and check it out...is it out in america or subbed yet?

The original IMO was a fresh take (animation-wise and certain plot points) on Samurai anime. I enjoyed it but I had just finished watching Samurai Champloo before I started Afro so it was a pretty hard act to follow.

So I wait. Hoping that the sequel will live up to the expectation set by the original Afro. From the sound of the summary given by Opace above, the bits are in place to make the sequel even better than the original..............If they get it right!

Should be good. Is Samuel Jackson doing the voice again? I really liked the first, badass black samurai's aren't that common.

Plus it had some strange characters like the guy towarRAB the end with the teddy bear head.

I just saw this for purchase on XBOX Live. Seems that they are releasing them together, the japanese and English versions.

As far as I know there isn't a Japanese version, just a tv and director's cut. No Japanese audio on either, although I guess there could be subtitles or something. But since it was made for Spike TV, it's just in English. I think the original was too? I could go look. Nope, no Japanese audio on either.

But anyway- this was pretty much more of the same. I think it took a step or two down in terms of script- there was some good stuff, and the basic plot was not bad, but some of the dialogue was horrible. It's a credit to the handful of actors involved that it wasn't completely laughable in that regard. I really can't complain about any of the actors- Ninja Ninja pretty much stole the show again, and was given the chance. Lucy Liu did well as Sio, and Mark Hamill (Mark Hamill??) was very good as the little mad scientist dude whose name I forget. I can never recognize his voice in these things- that's almost certainly to his credit. And Liam O'Brien did his usual solid (if pretty much instantly recognizable) job as the new owner of the Nuraber Two headband.

There were some missed opportunities in the storytelling- the kid that kept following Afro just sort of disappeared. I'm wondering if that changed in the director's cut- somebody who's seen the DC tell me without spoiling it, please. And the last fight was just kind of a big old lame letdown, I thought. One of those either we ran out of time or money deals, it felt like.

There was some really nice stuff done with the battle scenes in terms of animation, although that's really all it was was an extended reason for there to be fighting. It should be nicely done. It maintained the dark palette of the original, didn't stray very far outside of the formula that made its predecessor a success.

And also like the original- RZA's soundtrack is one of the major highlights, laying a delirious undercurrent at just the right moments.

Overall- if you liked the first one, you'll probably like this one, even though I'm thinking it was a cut or two (har) below the original in terms of quality overall.

This movie was awesome, IDK if I'd say it was better then the first, I personally liked the first one better, but the fight at the end was awesome, and the ending lead me to believe there will be a third...I hope at least...

Yes Samuel L. Jackson does the voice of both Afro and Ninja ninja.

I thought the movie was decent. Story was pretty interesting...only a couple fights though. Some of the fights I though were ok and kinda drawn out to long. Some of them were pretty badass. I think they should have done 5 episodes like they did with the First Afro Samurai mini series. That and have more bloody fight scenes. Kinda felt like it was hurried and idk. Id give it a 3 out of 5.

Yeah, I kinda agree with you. Plenty of gore and drippy, splattering blood in this one. I really like the first fight on the long bridge/boardwalk. I liked the music throughout. Reminded me of Samurai Champloo.

I've thought about it and it seems a bit irrational, (as I can't pinpoint any single reason why), but I was unimpressed with Lucy L's voice acting. Every time she spoke it grated on my nerves and annoyed me.

I give it a 3.75/5. Better than 3.5 but not worthy of a 4.

Yeah I really like the way they did that fight on the bridge. The style was different yet still fit and turned out awesome.

I also agree the music was pretty rad.

Yeah Lucy's voice in this irritated me as well.

As the look of things as you know there is going to be another one. If they do another one I hope it's back to 5 episodes again and I hope it's better than this movie. They seemed to want to focus on the story alot in this movie but it felt so crammed in. The first Afro movie had ALOT of story but ALOT of action as well and it worked perfect I thought with the 5 episodes. I thought they needed to do that with this cause it felt so damn rushed. Idk hopefully they will do 5 episodes for the next installment if thier is one.

Yea I think the purpose of the movie was just to revitalize the show for the sequel they have planned. The gentlemen at the end who I'm guess is Justice buy the hints and his voice suggest...some **** is about to go down lol. "Been waiting a long time for you."

This movie was faster paced and had more action. I enjoyed more than the movie only because it wasn't as long of a watch. You cant really watch more than once, unless you dedicate time to it, or watch individual eps... both kind of suck.

I really loved this movie. I really liked the first movie although I thought it wasn't something I'd watch a second time. Well, I thought the same of this movie. It seemed to have a couple of slow parts but I loved the fighting and the humor. I'd give this one an 8/10.
