African-Americans and our Hair?

So my mom says after a week from the salon my hair will go back to it's normal stage. Being dry hard and split ended, i perm my hair and even after that they bounce back when water touches it, it's true why is our hair always hard to tame it's getting annoying now and i always have to get fake hair why can't I just leave my hair out like other? please help and advice me with any hair-care product specifically for us african-americans who want soft and beautiful hair.
my hair is really thick also
