Affecting a teacher's choices?

I want to move down to an easier course of Religious Education, a compulsory subject at my school.
All the teachers I have spoken too about it, have approved, but all referred me to the head of RE for approval.
However, when he heard about moving from the top course to the lowest, he said no, saying that the classes were full, without much conviction.

As this is my final year of schooling, I wanted to optimise my concentration on my other 5 subjects, namely Maths, (top course), Literature, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics Specialist (Calculus). Of course, he still rejected, forcing me into the top RE course, which is basically another literature course, but around Religious texts instead.

He is a bitter old man. Very proud of his role as Stand-In Head of RE. He wants what's best for his subject, and that is students doing his subject.

My question is, are there things I can do to help affect his attitude and decision in this matter?
