New to the forum and I am finding lots of great info on here.

Here is my problem. I have a 5900 and UHF remote. The PVR was acting funny (recorded a show that I could not play but could "watch" it when fast forwarding through it), screwing up recordings (erasing them for no reason, not recording when it was supposed to, etc).

I am going to make sure I turn the PVR off at night and I have already done a reboot by holding in the power button on the front of the receiver.

So I was getting fed up and figured I was going to buy a HD PVR and an HDTV finally, but cost is an issue for me, so I'm glad I found this site and will try the above mentioned things first.

Also, I have 2 tvs (1 main floor, 1 basement) working off the 1 PVR. The UHF remote works like crap when in the basement. I have tried many new batteries, and rabbitt ears as an antenna from the PVR replacing the little 6 inch wire one. The PVR is basically right above where the sofa is in the basement, so, nice and close.

So to my dilemma. Should I purchase a new HD PVR, are they more reliable than the 5900 and will the UHF remote with the new system work better?

Or, should I just keep everything I have and try buying a new UHF remote since maybe it is not sending a strong enough signal to the PVR for some reason?

Or, can I add a second standard receiver in the basement for cheap and use a IR remote control for it and still watch all the programs recorded on my PVR?

So any advice would be greatly appreciated. I not too up on all the latest technology but I do get the gist of things and I'll be interested in learing about this stuff.

Thanks

It could be the Remote that is dying. One option is to run a length of RG6 coax down into the basement from the 5900, then attach the antenna to this RG6 with the assistance of an F81 (Barrel connector). I have used this on several occasions where there is interference.

Have you tried changing the Remote address.? That is quick and easy to do and might fix your problem.

To add an SD receiver you would need a line from the Dish to the Basement. You could connect this receiver to the TV using composite connections and still leave the 5900 into the "F" connector in the same TV.

Thanks for the idea. I gave it a shot (running the coax and mounting the antenna) and it didn't really help.

I then went back upstairs and the remote doesn't work on UHF that great either. I never really tried the UHF upstairs, the remote worked fine but of course thats because it is using the IR (its a pretty good IR becuase I definately don't always point to the PVR witht the remote but it sure must bounce off things and have a good range.

I'll try the remote address thing. I just have to figure out how to change it on the PVR. I was able to change it on the remote but the PVR was still 1 and the remote wouldn't work at all until I changed it back to 1 from 2.

You may be right about the remote being toast, maybe I'll get a new one and hope I can get a refund on the remote if I end up gettinga new receiver.

Thanks for your suggestions and any more ideas are welcomed.

OK, so I bought a new remote control, but now am having problems getting it to work with my old PVR.

I am at the "System Info" screen and my remote address is 1. The instructions state to press the record button on the remote to sync it up. I try it and nothing happens.

Also it says to program the Recover button. Where/what is the recover button?

Someone please help!!!!! lol

Ok so for anyone interested I got the remote to work!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had to flip the key over on the remote to the UHF black side (not the the BLue side with 2 on it)

I found the info in the actual full manual for the remote that I found on the DISH network website. Why would Bell have a manual on their website or with the products the sell? Makes too much sense I guess.

Anyway, the new remote solved my original problem of the downstairs tv not working since the remote couldn't communicate with the PVR. Faulty original remote after many years of service.

I'm going to go watch tv now, lol. Phew!!

I forgot that feature, I thought the Remote you had was from the 6100, which does not have the tag.....lol

The Recover Button is the small GREEN button that, when programmed correctly, is used to scroll through the various Inputs of the TV, to find the one that the Bell Receiver is connected to.
