I plan to get a new desktop for the end of the year.
In addition to the usual (web surfing, movies, mp3, word processing), I want it to have some reasonable gaming performance now, something that will age reasonably gracefully over the next 3-4 years. For me, that means no less than 30 FPS on Crysis with better than moderate settings, same on FSX with dynamic weather and air traffic.
I'm looking for something with a Core2Duo E8xxx CPU, 3GB of RAM, and a discrete 256MB graphics card. My budget is about $1,100.
1) am I being unrealistic about the performance I can get from those specs?
2) am I being unrealistic about how much $1,100 will buy either in terms of the components I'm looking for, or the performance I want?
