I've been going back and forth with this question that I had in my mind. Its already my second year and I'm still having doubts over pursuing a degree in philosophy when the odds are the careers offered directly related to it are nil to none. I've considered changing my major to physics but this still doesn't solve the problem of getting a well paid job right after I graduate ....The one job that is on my last resort is teaching, something that I've carefully tucked away in the back of my mind. Did anyone had a similar situation if so did it turned out alright?

My husband took a degree in Philosophy and went on to law school. Philosophy and logic are great background works for any field in grad school.

On its own, you are correct, a BA in Phil. only qualifies one to teach Philosophy.

Oh gosh! I know exactly how you feel. I went through community college being a pre-nursing major. I love learning science, physiology and microbiology were my favorite classes. But the bedside nursing, I just cannot do. So I came to the realization that I needed to change my major. I couldn't think of anything I really want to do. I thought about teaching, psychology. But I have to be realistic living in california and being a single parent it would be hard to live off of a teachers salary. I decided to volunteer at my sons elementary school and they put me with the speech therapist and I loved it. So now that is my new major. With that being said just keep on searching and you will find your major. Good luck. Only thing I don't like about the speech major is you have to go to grad school to get certified. I think gone are the days when you could major in what you really want to do, you have to do your research now because you can end up with a lot of student debt and no job.
