Advice for breaking news?

I have been playing basketball for about 4 years now playing travel and for my cyo and i am sure i don't want to play anymore. My parents haven't really talked to me about playing, they just assume i want to and i am scared that is i tell my parents that the won't be happy with me and hold a grudge and just be plain out awkward. Today i tried to tell my mom and i was giving her a date that i had a choir concert and she said i may have a basketball game on that day and then i said that i didn't say anything and she said what are you doing and i said that i was thinking about basketball, and then she said don't worry about it, it is months away but in actual time it is only a few weeks away. Then she said, abby you know you love basketball ball. And that is where my problem lies i don't know how to tell them. They even put up a $150 dollar hoop and court lines in my driveway. Please help!
