advice - dr called in a new prescription for me (higher dose) and overdosed

I have been taking 300 mg of wellbuterin in the form of 3 100 mg pills for many years. I recently called my dr (psych) and asked her to phone in to the pharmacy a new prescription because i was out of refills. My husband picked it up for me the next day and I took 3 pills as I always had... a few hours later I went into a psychotic state - was taken into the er and admitted to the hospital. She had written the script for 300mg pills instead of 100mg and i took 3 of them (900mg) (i am 100lbs, 4'11" so that is a lot for me) they were afraid of seizures, had me tied down, padding, heart rate was at 170, i was paranoid, laughing, crying, convulsing, etc. It was THE MOST horrible experience that I have ever had. I am wondering if it is in any way partially the fault of my doctor or if I am the one to blame? I am feeling very upset about what happened and don't know if I want to see her any further. Somehow i think she made an error that was very dangerous. Your thoughts?
 
I've learned to look at the prescription bottle before leaving the pharmacy.
Pharmacy gave me someone else's medication. i didn't realize this until after i returned home and opened the sack and looked at the bottle and i called them to let them know what they had done wrong, giving me someone elses prescription. Yikes, they messed up.

So sad you had to go through all this. Thank goodness your still here.
Did your bottle say 300mg ?
We all need to look at our prescription bottles to make sure of correct patient name, medication name and mg. Too many dangerous errors can be made.

Geez you are lucky. I had a friend who took a welbutrin prescribed to quit smoking and as a result had a grand mal seizure in Costco.
Save the bottle and contact an attorney. I have a cousin who was born with multiple birth defects as a result of an error Dr prescribed the med and the store slapped their own label over the warning.
In my opinion, this would not be a frivilous law suit. Thank goodness you are ok
 
didnt the pills look different this time? were they the same color, shape, size?-dont you look at your bottle each time you get it filled?
if the bottle says take one-then you no it wasnt your dr's fault.
 
Definitely not your fault.

Anytime things are done by humans, especially a succession of them, accidents happen. Whether is was the doctor who wrote it wrong, or the pharmacy who filled it wrong...it is not your fault. Knowing that, in the future I am sure you will look at everything you take.

In my pharmacy, if a dosage was way different than the one that I have been filling for years, I would hope the computer would red flag it.

I would insist on seeing where the mistake was made by getting a copy of the prescription. I would make a report to both the doctor and the pharmacy, no matter who is at fault. This was a serious error which should not have happened, and you were put in to serious danger from it. You should at least get the satisfaction of knowing who to blame, and make sure they know what happened to you.

I am so sorry...a similar thing happened to me, so we know it happens. Make a stink, everyone in that kind of work needs to know how important it is to do their job exactly right.
