Advantage to 'vacation status'?

I will be moving for about 6 months to a location where I can't receive BEV. I put my account on vacation status, but I'm thinking about it and am really not sure what there is to be gained by paying $10 per month, rather than just closing my account and signing up again when we move back. I'm currently on a month to month "contract" and am not on any particular programming bundle.

I must be missing something. Is there a large connection fee to activate a new account (if not going on a contract)? I'll pay $60 over the next 6 months. Perhaps one can not start a new account now without going on a contract.

I need some advice.

I would say you are better off to close your account. After 6 months you are considered a new customer, then you can advantage of all the specials.
 
True, although it seems as if the specials depend on signing a multi-year contract.

It just occurred to me that if I close the account I will have to give 30 days notice. The month of charges will be approximately $30. So that's one con to simply canceling.

That's not really a issue seeing as you will have to pay someone for your TV regardless.
 
you more than likely won't be able to get away with anything other than a 1 year contract.

Plusses for not cancelling.

If your interested in new hardware you should cancel and come back as a new sub.
 
It's actually 10$ done throught internet or channel 188 or
15$ done throught an agent. 6 months=either 60$ or 90$.

Cancelling will cost you one last month of service... You downgrade to Digital standard on your billing cycle, then call the next day to cancel the service. According to the 30 days policy you have to pay 30 days, so 31$

6 months later you call to reactivate the service and get a new client promo. HD PVR that you pay 599$ with 300$ programming credits or you get 6 months at half price. Down side you have to take a new contract for 2 years

The only time that I think the vac ajust satus is worth it is in case were client is on a contract
 
If you own a HD receiver it may be worth your while to stick around for the swap.
 
I did the math, decided that I didn't want to go on a contract upon my return, and decided to stick with vacation status. But all the advice was valid and appreciated.
