We just got a 4 year old redbone coonhound from the shelter and when we take her outside and leave her she sits at the door and whines. this morning it was for 30 minutes. I dont know if this is stress whining or if she is testing us. Is the solution just to ignore her til she stops?? or since we saved her from the shelter does she have abandoment issues and we should be doing something else...I have no clue. Help!!
my boyfriend wants a dog that will mainly be outdoors.

He gets up at 6 am and lets her out and I have to put her in her kennel at 7:45 before I go to work. I assume that she would want to get out in the yard and get some exercise before she has to be in the kennel for 4 hours til I get home on my lunch break to let her out.

she will run and pee when outside but then stares at the door the rest of the time and whines a lot.

at night when we kennel her she whines for a few minutes and then settles down and falls asleep. I just assumed if we let her whine outside for a few minutes she would stop but it doesnt.

Oh that is sad no she is afraid. Stay outside with her a few times she has to get use to going outside. But she may think you have left her go to the door and reassure her that you are there.

I took in a stray 4 months ago and if she has to pee real bad she will run outback and go but if I just need her to go for the night or something I have to literally go out in the grass with her. I would go out with her until she gets more comfortable.

Good luck!

Sounds like she wants to be inside or at least with you. Is there a reason she has to stay out?

Try going outside with her for a couple of weeks. Pet her, praise her lavishly, she will start loving it. Kick in the chase reflex w/ her, run while calling her (to where you would like for her to be peeing/pooping) .. she will chase after you.
Just remember it doesn't matter where you got the dog from, all dogs whine/ have to re-adjust after being re-homed. Just make her happy and at home.... her forever home-thank you for adopting! :) Now, if everyone would......
