I'm 22 and have had acne for nearly a decade. I've been on all different types of medications (Proactive, birth control, doxycyclin) and my acne seems to be worse then ever. My insurance doesn't cover dermatology and I have to go to a family physician to seek help. I'm wondering if there's anything else to be done that maybe they don't know about? Accutane takes a special license that most physicians don't carry - only derms. Is there any other option for me?

You may want to try Omega-3 fish oil. There's been a lot of postings about how well it works. Check out page 2 for some of the postings. I recently starting taking it myself (I'm 38 with annoying adult acne) and can already see an improvement. It's also good for overall health - clearing up the acne is an added bonus :)

oh my...I had the same problem. Tried many things to control my acne. Then I asked my doctor about spironolactone. She prescribed me 25mg a day and I saw a little improvement....then I was bumped up to 50mg a day and saw a little more improvement. Now I am bumped up to 100mg a day (for the last 8 months) and am completely clear. I get tiny little blemishes once a month (PMS) but they do not bother me. I have no side effects. And not too mention this is a cheap medication. I pay $15 a month!

Good Luck

Try a good probiotic. Over the past couple of weeks I ate a lot of junk food and broke out mainly on my chest area. I started taking Garden of Life primal defense HSO probiotics and my acne went away fairly quickly.
