Adobe Flash 10 not installing correctly on Internet 8 or Mozilla Firefox?

On youtube and mostly all other sites it says I do not have flash on my computer and it gives me a link to the adobe website. I have tried multiple times to download and install flash but the program is not registering on my computer. I even downloaded Firefox...what should I do?
I have Windows XP
 
do you have vista or something else? its important to download the adobe that works for your computer. and when you download the flash player take it from the Original sit, not a link
