Adjusting Font Sizes in S60 3rd Edition...

Is it possible to adjust the font sizes in any part of the OS in S60 3rd Edition? I have been combing the forums and I can't seem to find if this is possible or not, basically I would like to decrease the font size on the default email reader as the screen is quite large on the E61 but the fonts are huge.

Man, I am having the exact opposite problem. On the home or the active standby screen, the fonts are so tiny I can barely read them. I als ocan't read the tiny print in the contacts screen, that is the information I put in the contacts. I too have been asking around the very same question you pose in this thread, to no avail.

It seems rather silly that they can't be adjusted, I have been hunting around for the last hour and it seems that nokia/symbian has left this ability out without some over the top firmware modification. Without adjustable font sizes it doesn't even really meet accesibility options for visually impaired people. I receive tons of large emails daily and I can't even get a full email on a single screen in Messaging.
This might be a deal breaker, the WLAN is great, and its nice to get out of the locked in feel of application development on the Blackberry Platform, but no adjustable fonts? Is this even a sane UI decision?

Well good luck:

I posed this very same issue in another thread and some people seem to think i was crazy even having an issue with the poor font sizing. I too regard this as a very poor design issue and it is impacting my appreciation of the phone.

I figured as much, the strange thing is I could change font sizes on my 9300 per application, ie I could make the fonts that were displayed in the email application smaller or larger, which is basically all i want to do on the E61.

The only application that I know allows this is the built-in web browser. I don't know if you can change the native font sizes for the OS though.

Nahri:

Help me if you will. Do you find the native fonts for the OS satisfactory. AAAre they too small. I find them to be really tiny. Perhaps i missing something.

I just found this thread by doing a search. I definitely need bigger fonts and unless someone has a solution my E61 will continue to draw dust in the box. It's useless to me.

My motorola a1200 at least has adjustable font sizes so I can read the darn screen.

don't be mean! heh

anyways, i looked around on my N73 for a bit and couldn't find a way to adjust fone size. maybe someone out there could make some quick bucks and build a tool to adjust the font size?

of course.. having the N73, the font size is just fine for me.

LOL. I used to have those young eyes once too. But, looking at the main screen, I can't even read what my appointments are without reading glasses.. Personally, I'd certainly purchase an app that would allow me to set the font size on different screens.

Geez, hate the thought of going back to my Treo.

Love the E61, but I agree with most in this thread that the fonts are very small. I hope someone comes up with an application to address this issue... I hate having to wear my reading glasses!!

from seeing the pics of the n95, the fonts seem a bit bigger...they seem to stretch across more of the screen than the n73...that being said, it just might be the fact that the n95 pics are larger too so the fonts might not be that big afterall lol.

s60 fonts sizes have always sucked. my buddy took one look at the screen and said 'no thanks'. couldnt read any of the fonts in the menus, home screen, etc. as you all probably know, changing fonts in an app is a specific option for that app. not every app allows it.

this has been answered before, scaleable fonts will be available with S60 3rd FP1, as for those S60 3rd without FP1, there is no available solution, well not yet, but most likely it will never happen, not on anything regarding system... some applications are able to do it though...

Go into the settings and specify it as "1 line" rather than 2 lines. You will get twice as many headers in your inbox and the emails themselves will have smaller fonts.

edit: Also, the fonts on the headers will be reduced. This option has been available on every S60v3 I've had (E61,E50,N73) except for my N80ie. I love having the fonts smaller because I use the headers from my email as reminders quite frequently. Many things I need to get done in the day are sent via email so the headers are a life line in a way.
