Adding a photo to a profile page that doesnt accept HTML.?

I am trying to add a picture to an artists profile page and it won't allow me, I think the site doesn't allow html in their profiles. How do I get around this or use a different code. I only know very very basic html and have tried variations of

<"img src="picture url">

Should I be doing something else?
I noticed that other people have been able to get their photos on their profile page. Any help would be seriously appreciated.
